Consistency in Action: The Power of Targets, Goals, and Routines

At the start of this year, I challenged myself to write a blog every Sunday. Thirty-six weeks later, I haven’t missed a single one. What kept me going wasn’t just passion—it was a system. The same system I use with my athletes: target, goals, and consistency.

1. Target: Know What You’re Aiming For
My target was simple: one blog a week. But behind it was a purpose—providing practical value for runners. A strong target should be clear, challenging, and meaningful. In running, maybe it’s a new distance, a PR, or finishing a race you’ve always dreamed of. Whatever it is, define it.

2. Goals: Break It Down
With the target in place, I built weekly goals around the questions I hear from athletes. In running, this might look like gradually increasing mileage, improving nutrition, or sticking to a strength routine. Goals are your plan—concrete steps that move you toward your target.

3. Consistency: Show Up, No Matter What
Writing weekly has become part of my rhythm. Even on busy or uninspired days, I hit publish. In running, it’s the same: success comes from steady, repeated effort—not perfect days, but regular, intentional ones. Build a routine that sticks.

The Takeaway
Whether writing or training, the process matters:

  • Set a specific target.

  • Define clear goals.

  • Stay consistent.

So, what’s your target? What steps are you taking? And how will you build the habits that lead to real progress?
